The Miami Heat had their season opener on Wednesday night and beat the Orlando Magic 108-96 at Amway Center. It was the first time in 13 years that the club played a game without Dwyane Wade on the team roster. The last time Wade was not on the team was following the 2002-03 regular season when he was drafted.
It was a close game at halftime 53-50 until Miami(1-0) pulled away from Orlando(0-1) during the second half. Hassan Whiteside led the Heat with 18 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots. Goran Dragic added 16 points, six assists and six rebounds while Justice Winslow contributed 15 points along with eight rebounds.
