Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM has named Alex Donno and Josh Friedman as their new midday show and their program will begin on Thursday. Both Donno and Friedman worked as evening hosts on the two different sports radio stations in the Miami market owned by Entercom Communications.
Donno, a 2007 University of Miami grad, begin his professional broadcasting career with Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM as an intern, producer and reporter. He was later elevated to Sunday morning MMA weekend host and afternoon sports anchor.
He left The Ticket and joined WQAM in July 2012. Donno first worked as a Saturday morning MMA host and midday sports anchor. He was promoted to the evening host spot in August 2014 following seven months as a midday co-host with Brandon Guzio. Donno was named the studio host of the Florida Panthers Radio Network just prior to the 2014-15 regular season. He was named the studio host for the Miami Hurricanes Radio Network last year.
Friedman, an Indiana University grad, makes his return to WQAM after a 15-year absence. He joined The Ticket in December 2005. He began as a reporter for the station covering the Florida Marlins, Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat. He later hosted a weekend show until March 2014.
After The Ticket lost the radio broadcast rights to the Miami Marlins following the 2013 season, Friedman was named the evening host in April 2014 and picked up Chris Wittyngham as a co-host in July 2014. They were the interim afternoon co-hosts for one month in August 2015 and then returned to the evening shift. Wittyngham left the evening program in May 2016 and Friedman has co-hosted the evening show with guest co-hosts until this week.
Friedman had a tenure with a Chicago sports radio station during the 1990s as a reporter, producer and board operator. He moved to Miami in 1996 and was the morning show producer at WQAM. He became the Florida Marlins reporter in 1998. He left that station in May 2003 and worked the next two years as a Miami sports reporter for Metro Networks.
