The Chaminade-Madonna Lions take on the Kings Academy Lions on Saturday morning in the FHSAA Class 3A state championship game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Both teams won their state semifinal games on the road last week.
Chaminade-Madonna(11-2) is the defending Class 3A state champions and are playing in the state title for the third straight year. The Lions have won seven consecutive games and allowed just three points in their last five games. They have outscored their opponents 447-119 this season. They pounded Palmer Trinity 62-0 in the regional semifinal, got by American Heritage 14-3 in the regional final and last week blanked Clearwater Central Catholic 16-0.
The Lions intends the rush the ball with running backs Thaddius Franklin and Willie Davis IV. Quarterback Daelen Menard will look for wide receivers John Dunmore, Rory Bourdeau and Jordan Cash for pass receptions.
Three of the last four victories for Kings Academy(12-1) have been by one point and they have outscored their last opponents by just 12 points. The Lions have outscored their opponents 487-190 this year. TKA beat Holy Trinity Episcopal 16-7 in a regional semifinal, edged First Academy 23-22 in a regional final and outscored Florida State University High 49-48 in a state semifinal.
Lions quarterback Justin Wake will guide the team and can throw passes to wide receivers Cory Croteau, Jeremiah Scroggins, Drew Luchey, Isaac Scroggins, Mark Witzen and Milton Bayonne. Running backs Pressley Almond and Dillon Larson are expected to get rushing opportunities from the backfield.
