The Champagnat Catholic Lions face the North Florida Christian Eagles in the FHSAA Class 2A state championship at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Friday morning.
Champagnat Catholic(9-5) is the defending Class 2A state champions and had to win four straight playoff games on the road. They are making their third consecutive appearance in the state title game. The Lions edged Miami Christian 20-19 in the first round, defeated Moore Haven 29-16 in the regional semifinal, beat Neumann 21-10 in the regional final and handled Admiral Farragut 24-20 in the state semifinal.
Quarterback Christopher Vidal will look for wide receivers Malik Richardson, Shedrick Ursery and Johnqual Lewis downfield. Linebacker Daryn Duke Jones leads the Lions defense. He will also be used in the rushing attack along with running backs Donovan Jones and Calvin Montgomery.
North Florida Christian(8-4) outscored their last three opponents 106-47. They blasted Florida A&M 38-6 in a regional semifinal, took down University Christian 45-21 in a regional semifinal and slipped by Victory Christian Academy 23-20 last week in a state semifinal. Quarterback J.D. Jerry will guide their offense.
