The University of Miami Hurricanes football team named Manny Diaz as their new head coach on Sunday. Mark Richt announced his retirement as head coach of the team. The Hurricanes were embarrassed in the Pinstripe Bowl by the Wisconsin Badgers 35-3 on Thursday.
Diaz was the Canes defensive coordinator for the school from 2016 until two weeks ago. He was announced as the new head coach of the Temple University Owls on December 13. The results of the incoming recruitment class for Miami was a disappointment during early national signing day on December 19.
Richt leaves his post as the head football coach after three seasons with the team and finished his reign with a 26-13 record. He did lead the Hurricanes to the ACC Coastal Division title in 2017 and lost to the Clemson Tigers in the ACC title game. Richt had a 7-6 record this season and finished third in the Coastal Division.
