The Florida Panthers traded defensemen Alexander Petrovic to the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Chris Wideman and a 2019 third-round draft pick on Sunday. Petrovic was mainly a third-line defenseman with the Cats and was a healthy scratch in the three previous games prior to the contest he played in on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Petrovic played with the Panthers for the past seven seasons. He compiled just one assist and one point in 26 games this season with the team. His best season with Florida was in 2015-16 when he had two goals, 15 assists and a +17 plus/minus in 66 games.
It was the second time in five weeks that Wideman had been dealt. He was with the Ottawa Senators for four seasons. His best season there was in 2016-17 when he had five goals and 12 assists in 76 games. He was traded to the Edmonton Oilers on November 22 and he played five games with them and had two assists.
