Three South Florida high schools were able to win a state championship at Camping World Stadium in Orlando this past week. There were seven representatives from the South Florida tri-county area in six state title contests.
Dade County ended up with one state champion. Miami Northwestern repeated as Class 6A state champions as they defeated Armwood for the second straight year by the score of 22-0. Columbus was upended by Mandarin 37-35 in the Class 8A state title clash. Defending Class 2A state champions Champagnat Catholic had their title reign stopped by North Florida Christian 28-20.
Broward County finished with the other two state champions from South Florida. Cardinal Gibbons won their first state title as they beat North Marion in Class 5A. Chaminade-Madonna won their second straight Class 3A state title as they topped the only Palm Beach County high school Kings Academy 38-10. St. Thomas Aquinas fell to Lakeland 33-20 in the Class 7A state title game.
