The Florida Panthers got a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday. The Panthers visit the Chicago Blackhawks to finish a four-game road trip on Sunday.
Florida(14-14-6) quickly took the lead on the power play at the 3:09 mark. Keith Yandle was on the right point and passed it low to Aleksander Barkov in the right corner. He connected a pass behind the Red Wings net to Jonathan Huberdeau on the goal line. Huberdeau found Mike Hoffman on the inner edge of the left circle and he scored on a one-time slapshot past Jimmy Howard for his 16th goal of the season.
The Panthers made it 2-0 with 2:29 left in the first. They came in on a 3-on-2 break. Barkov was at the top of the zone when he angled a pass to his right. Huberbeau sent the puck from the top right circle to the slot tp Evgenii Dadonov and he flipped a shot from the low slot to collect his 17th goal of the year.
Midway through the second period, Detroit(15-17-5) cut the deficit at 10:00. Former Panther Thomas Vanek stripped the puck from Jared McCann from behind the Florida cage, stepped toward the blue paint and got the tally by Roberto Luongo.
