The Deerfield Beach Bucks visit the Citrus Bowl on Friday night and face the Vero Beach Indians. It is a Class 8A regional final in Region 3. The winner will take on either Columbus or Western next week.
Deerfield Beach(9-3) have compiled five shutouts this season and outscored their last 10 opponents 443-67. The Bucks have won four straight contests and nine of their last 10 games. They have scored at least 41 points in each of their last four games and clobbered Palm Beach Central 44-6 last week in the second round. Running backs Jaylan Knighton and Jaziun Patterson will get their share of rushing opportunities from the backfield. Wide receivers Xavier Restrepo, Deajaun McDougle, Bryce Gowdy, Alex Henningham and Deltavian Jenkins are expected to make pass receptions from quarterback Michael Pratt. Derohn King can be placed as their backup quarterback.
Vero Beach(11-0) barely got by district rival Treasure Coast for the second time this season. They held on to win 22-14 in a regional semifinal last week. The undefeated Indians have outscored their opponents 285-117 this year and allowed more than 14 points in a game once this season. Quarterback Travis Jankowski will lead their offense down the field. His main targets are wide receivers Jermaine Dawson and Keith Woulard. They can give the ball off to running backs Jaden Meizinger and Bobby McMillian.
