Islanders Get By Panthers

The Florida Panthers were edged by the New York Islanders 2-1 at Barclays Center on Saturday. It was the 2,000th regular season game for the Panthers franchise. They will finish the short two-game road trip on Sunday at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.
After an Islanders power-play goal was disallowed, they scored just a couple of minutes later at 5:40. Former Panther Derick Brassard powered a slap shot from above the left circle which was saved. Brock Nelson made a spinning pass from the left of the crease across. Mathew Barzal received it in the low right circle, pushed it to his backhand and lifted the puck by Sergei Bobrovsky for his seventh goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
In the third period, Florida(7-4-5) tied it up 1-1 on a power-play goal at the 6:12 mark. Keith Yandle forwarded a pass from the high slot to Jonathan Huberdeau below the right circle. His centering pass was partially blocked and then Aleksander Barkov backhanded the loose puck from the crease past Thomas Greiss. It was the fifth straight game that the Cats scored with the man advantage.
New York(12-3-1), who recently had a 10-game winning streak snapped, answered back just 38 seconds later to reclaim the lead 2-1. Barzal passed the puck back from the end wall to Devon Toews on the left point and he sent it to Scott Mayfield on the right wing. He cranked a shot that hit the sticks of Brian Boyle and Anton Stralman before it landed in the Florida cage.
The Panthers thought they had a goal on the power play with 5:25 to go. It was reversed because Barkov used a high stick to bat the puck into the net from the top of the crease.
