Second baseman Starlin Castro will be staying with the Miami Marlins for the 2020 season. The Marlins declined the $16 million option to him. He will receive a $1 million buyout and become a free agent.
He was acquired in a package deal from the New York Yankees after the 2017 season for outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. Castro played two seasons with the Marlins, which included every game of the 2019 season. He compiled a .270 batting average along with 22 home runs and 86 runs batted in during 162 games.
