The Booker T. Washington Tornadoes take on the Bolles Bulldogs in the FHSAA Class 4A state championship game on Wednesday night. It will be the first of five state title contests to be held at Daytona Stadium in Daytona Beach. The state championships games were held in Orlando from 2007 until 2018.
Booker T. Washington(12-2) looks to win their first state championship since 2015 and their sixth overall. They won the Class 4A crown four consecutive years from 2012 to 2015. After they knocked off local rival Carol City 35-14 at Traz Powell Stadium in the first round, they won three playoff games on the road. The Tornadoes edged Gulliver Prep 34-31 in the second round, dropped Cardinal Gibbons 31-21 in the regional final and beat Lakewood 9-7 in the state semifinal. Quarterback Torey Morrison intends to guide their offense down the field. He can scramble out of the pocket at anytime and pass the ball to wide receivers Theodore Richardson, Jacorey Brooks, Macho Arza, Ternard Summerall and Corey Stanley. Their rushing attack consists of running backs Shemar Paul and Nijeh Bethel.
Bolles(11-1) has won the most FHSAA football state championships than any other Florida high school with 11 titles. Following a season-opening loss to University Christian, they have won 11 consecutive contests. They have outscored their last 11 opponents 395-103. The Bulldogs hosted all their postseason games at home as they pounded South Walton 62-6 in the second round, defeated Bradford 16-6 in the regional final and stopped Cocoa 20-14 in the state semifinal. They have several options at running back with Kade Frew, Andre Parker, Landen Frazier, Jeremiah Johnson and Azeh Kani. Wide receivers Davis Ellis and Gunner Boree along with tight end Simon Brackin look to make pass receptions from quarterback Ben Netting. Johnson can also be used in the quarterback position.
