St. Thomas Aquinas Wins In Las Vegas

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders played one final game in 2019 as they defeated St. Louis Crusaders(Hawaii) 35-19 at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The nationally televisted event was part of the Geico Bowl Series involving state championship football teams. The undefeated Raiders snapped the Crusaders 38-game winning streak.
     St. Louis(13-1) quarterback Jayden de Laura fumbled the ball away on the first play of the contest. St. Thomas Aquinas(15-0) scored on their first play of the drive 13 seconds into the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. Quarterback Zion Turner threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to the front left side of the end zone to tight end Anthony Johnson.
     The rest of the first quarter would belong to the Crusaders. They were up 13-7 on two touchdown passes by de Laura to wide receivers Roman Wilson and Koali Nishigava.
     The Raiders regained the lead 14-13 in the second quarter as wide receiver Marcus Rosemy caught a touchdown pass from Turner. On their next possession, running back Travis Dixon carried the ball, hopped several times and dove into the end zone for a 21-13 lead.
     St. Louis added one more touchdown before the end of the first half. de Laura scrambled in from 22 yards away and they trailed 21-19.
     The second half belonged to the St. Thomas Aquinas defense as they held the Crusaders scoreless in the final two quarters. The Raiders picked up two touchdowns during the third quarter rushed by running backs Anthony Hankerson and Jaedon Henry.
