Dade County high school football players made their selections for colleges they will attend. The county won five FHSAA state football championships earlier this month.
The three-time defending state champions Miami Northwestern had wide receiver Marcus Fleming and defensive back Ronald Delancy head to Nebraska. Palmetto wide receiver Kentron Poitier shifted to Florida State. Gulliver Prep defensive end Donell Harris choose Texas A&M.
FHSAA Class 8A champion Columbus sends offensive lineman Andre Lamas up to Florida Atlantic while defensive end Elijah Roberts remains in Miami.
South Dade had several players make their decisions. It included defensive back Jaiden Francois(Nebraska), defensive back Keshawn Washington(Miami), offensive lineman Jonathan Denis(Oregon) and offensive lineman Jose Mirabal(FIU).
Two players who won state titles this year will be heading to the same school. Class 6A state champion Miami Central running back Kejon Owens and Class 4A Booker T. Washington wide receiver Theodore Richardson are both going to attend FIU.
Other top players in Dade County included Carol City wide receiver Thaiu Jones-Bell(Alabama), Southridge defensive lineman Emmanuel Belgrave(Pittsburgh), Norland defensive lineman Kendrick Wilson(Central Florida), Booker T. Washington defensive back Corey Thornton(Central Florida), South Miami linebacker Khaya Wright and Monsignor Pace defensive lineman Skykieim Gloster(FIU).
Small schools in Dade County were also noticed. Champagnat Catholic wide receiver Jonhquai Lewis moved to Kansas, linebacker Jesus Machado jumped to Tulane and defensive back Jalen Harrell signed with Miami. Belen Jesuit running back Don Chaney Jr. remains in the region at Miami.
