The Miami Heat were defeated by the Washington Wizards 123-105 at Capital One Arena on Monday night. It was the final game of the calendar year and the decade for the Heat and Wizards. The Heat return to Miami and host the NBA champion Toronto Raptors on their 20th anniversary in American Airlines Arena on Thursday.
Miami(24-9) got out to a 39-29 advantage after one quarter. It disappeared as Washington(10-22) surpassed them and moved ahead 71-63 by halftime. Both clubs stayed even during the third, but the Wizards outscored the Heat 33-24 in the fourth quarter.
The Heat were led by Jimmy Butler as he had 27 points. Bam Adebayo added 14 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double. Duncan Robinson drained in 16 points and Kendrick Nunn put in 14 points. Jordan McRae scored a game-high 29 points for the Wizards and Garrison Mathews contributed 28 points.
