The Florida Panthers escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena on Saturday. It was the first road game for the Panthers following a nine-game home stand that lasted three weeks. Their last contest away was in Washington against the Capitals on November 27.
Evgenii Dadonov gave Florida(18-12-5) a 1-0 lead at 7:07 of the first period. Brian Boyle was able to make the only assist.
The Panthers made it 2-0 in the second period with 8:26 left on a power-play goal. Aaton Ekblad took a shot from the top of the zone and Boyle deflected it from the crease area.
In the third period, the Cats had a three-goal margin 26 seconds in with the man advantage. Jonathan Huberdeau chalked up his 13th goal of the season from the creass following a backhand pass by Aleksander Barkov from the end wall.
Carolina(22-12-2) broke the shutout at the 9:16 mark. Nino Neiderreiter got a tally on assists by Teuvo Teravainen and Dougie Hamilton.
Noel Acciari scored his 12th goal of the year at 10:41 for Florida on a feed from Huberdeau to give them a 4-1 lead. Acciari got his seventh goal in the last three games.
