The Toronto Maple Leafs stepped by the Florida Panthers 4-1 at Amerant Bank Arena on Tuesday night. It was a rematch of the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The Cats now have the worst record in the Eastern Conference. Jack Studnicka made his debut with the Panthers.
Toronto(12-11-3) rolled out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:24 mark of the first period. Troy Stecher got his first goal with his new club. He released a wrist shot from the right point past Sergei Bobrovsky.
The Maple Leafs expanded their lead to 2-0 at 7:54. Dakota Joshua took a forehand shot from the left of the crease for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Florida(12-12-3) cut the deficit to 2-1 on a shorthanded goal with 5:17 remaining in the second period. Anton Lundell fed a centering pass from the low left circle and Sam Reinhart scored his 14th goal of the season on a wrist shot from the inner right circle by Joseph Woll.
In the third period, the Leafs increased it to 3-1 with 7:42 left. Scott Laughton was able to collect his first tally this year on a shot from the top of the crease.
The Panthers gave up one more goal in the final minute of the third. John Tavares got an empty-net goal with 50 seconds to go as he carried the puck down the ice alone from the neutral zone.
