The Miami Marlins routed the Washington Nationals 10-2 at Nationals Park on Sunday. The Fish prevented a four-game weekend sweep to the Nats.
Miami(37-55) broke out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Cameron Maybin hit a single to center field for Martin Prado to score. J.T. Realmuto followed with a two-run base hit into right that scored J.T. Riddle and Maybin.
Washington(45-44) was able to close the gap. A Daniel Murphy hit to right field brought in Mark Reynolds in the second. Murphy placed a sacrifice fly to left with Juan Soto in the bottom of the third.
The Marlins would score seven unanswered runs down the stretch and pulled away. It included a Riddle single to right and Realmuto scored during the fourth.
In the seventh inning, the Fish added two more runs. Derek Dietrich sliced a base hit to right with Yadiel Rivera scoring. Realmuto lined a single to center field as Dietrich scored.
They capped it in the top of the ninth and compiled four runs. Justin Bour drove in Dietrich and Realmuto on a double to deep left field. Prado then doubled to right and Bour crossed the plate. Prado eventually scored on a Riddle single to center field.
