The Tampa Bay Rays won the game with a grand-slam home run on their final at-bat as they overcame the Miami Marlins 6-4 at Tropicana Field on Sunday. The Marlins were one out away from sweeping the Rays.
Both clubs combined for five runs in the second inning. Miguel Rojas gave Miami(43-58) a 2-0 lead as he doubled to right-center field which scored Justin Bour and Martin Prado. Cameron Maybin then added a run on a throwing error by Carlos Gomez. Bryan Holaday made it a four-run margin as he knocked in Rojas on a base hit into left-center.
Tampa Bay(50-49) responded with a tally. Mallex Smith hit a sacrifice fly to left field for C.J. Cron to score.
The Rays pulled off a major rally in the bottom of the ninth. Ji-Man Choi drove in Jake Bauers with a single to center field. Four batters later, pinch-hitter Daniel Robertson smashed a grand-slam homer to left-center field on a 1-0 pitch with two out. Cron, Smith and Willy Adames all scored in front of him on the play.
