Panthers Press Canadiens

     The Florida Panthers downed the Montreal Canadiens 5-1 at Bell Centre on Thursday night. The Panthers finished up a three-game road trip in Canada with a 2-0-1 record. 
     After a scoreless first period, Florida(14-7-2) moved ahead 1-0 at the 7:07 mark of the second. Aleksander Barkov skated though the neutral zone, into the left circle and snapped a shot for his seventh goal of the year. It was the 250th career goal for Barkov in the National Hockey League. 
     Montreal(10-11-2) trailed 2-0 after they give up a goal just eight seconds into the third period. Carter Verhaeghe pushed the puck ahead from the red line. Sam Bennett carried it from the left point and fired a slap shot from the left circle for his third tally this season. 
     It became 3-0 for the Panthers at 3:12 of the third. Barkov sent a clearing pass from his own zone. Sam Reinhart entered the Habs zone and made a drop pass. Evan Rodrigues released a wrist shot from above the left circle and collected his fourth goal of the season. 
     The Cats kept their momentum and expanded it to a four-goal margin at the 5:49 mark with the man advantage. Rodrigues connected a cross-ice pass from the right side which was touched by Anton Lundell in the middle. Verhaeghe put in his 10th goal of the campaign on a snap shot from the inner left circle. 
     The Canadiens got on the scoreboard at 9:30 and they were down 4-1. Cole Caufield angled a pass from the right circle and Jonathan Kovacevic scored on a wrist shot from the top left circle. 
     Oliver Ekman-Larsson blasted a slap shot from the top left circle with 10.1 seconds left in the third to give the Panthers a 5-1 lead. Florida had four goals on 11 shots during the third period.
