Panthers Survive Blue Jackets

     The Florida Panthers got by the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 in overtime on Monday night at Amerant Bank Arena. This was the only home game in a five-game stretch for the Cats.
     Florida(6-4-1) rocketed out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period. Ryan Lomberg started it with his first goal of the year on a wrist shot at the 2:19 mark. 
     Gustav Forsling made it 2-0 just 50 seconds later on a slap shot for his second goal of the campaign. Aleksander Barkov gave them a 3-0 advantage at 6:09 as he placed in a backhand shot from the crease area for his third goal of the season. The Cats had outshot the Blue Jackets 16-1 just 11 minutes into the contest. 
     Columbus(4-5-3) climbed back into the game later in the first frame. Sean Kuraly found the net on a wrist shot with 4:19 remaining in the first. Boone Jenner added his sixth goal in 2023-24 on a snap shot with 1:09 left in the period to make it 3-2. 
     In the second period, the Blue Jackets evened it up 3-3 with the man advantage at 9:58. Kirill Marchenko placed in a backhand shot from the blue paint for his second tally. 
     They got their first lead of the contest with 7:30 left in the third period. Alexandre Texier was able to score his first goal this season on a wrist shot. 
     The Panthers pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Nick Cousins helped them tie the game 4-4 with 56.4 seconds to go in the third with his second goal of the year. He stopped a clearing pass at the top right circle and fired a wrist shot from the slot area. 
     The Cats won the game at the 1:16 mark of overtime. Matthew Tkachuk sent a long lead pass from his own zone. Anton Lundell snapped a shot from the right circle which was saved. Carter Verhaeghe tapped in the rebound from the left of the crease for his fourth goal of the campaign.
