The Miami Marlins continued their road swing as they fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 at Busch Stadium on Friday night. The Fish were held to just three hits in the game and had their two-game win streak snapped.
In the first inning, St. Louis(51-34) took their first lead of the game against Marlins starting hurler Jacob Turner with a two-out rally. Matt Holliday was able to double into the right-center field gap and then scored on a double by Allen Craig to right-center field.
Logan Morrison and Miami(32-53) responded against Cardinals starting pitcher Jake Westbrook with a lead-off home run to center field on a 1-0 pitch. It was the third homer by Morrison this season.
The Redbirds regained the lead during the third inning with three runs in the frame. Matt Carpenter began with a base hit to right-center field and then Jon Jay singled to right field. Carpenter crossed the plate on a double by Holliday into deep right field as Jay advanced to third. Craig knocked in Jay with a sacrifice fly to right to make it 3-1. After Yadier Molina grounded out to third, Matt Adams doubled to left field which brought in Holliday.
Turner gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings and dropped to 2-1 this season. Westbrook raised his record to 5-3 as he pitched seven innings and allowed one run on three hits. Former Marlins pitcher Edward Mujica got his 22nd save of the year for the Cards as he stopped Miami in the ninth inning with two strikeouts.
