The Miami Marlins pulled off a come-from-behind victory with a 2-1 win over the Washington Nationals in 10 innings on Saturday night at Marlins Park. The Fish have won three straight games and improved to 21-26 at home this season.
In the fourth inning, Washington(47-47) got their only run off Jose Fernandez. Bryce Harper led off with a walk and Ryan Zimmerman popped out to short. Adam LaRoche came out with a base hit to left field as Harper advanced to third. Harper scored on a sacrifice fly by Jayson Werth to center.
Miami(35-57) waited until their last licks in the ninth inning to tie the game against Rafael Soriano. He was greeted immediately as Giancarlo Stanton smashed a 1-2 pitch over the left-field wall for his 10th home run of the season.
The Marlins got the winning run off Craig Stammen in the 10th inning. Adeiny Hechavarria reached second on a throwing error by third baseman Chad Tracy and then Jeff Mathis walked. Both runners advanced one base as Placido Polanco laid down a sacrifice bunt. After Justin Ruggiano was intentionally walked to load the bases, Hechavarria crossed the plate as Ed Lucas got to first on a ground ball and beat a 4-6-3 double-play attempt.
Fernandez went six innings and allowed one run on four hits while Nationals starting pitcher Dan Haren gave up no runs on three hits and struck out seven in six innings. Steve Cishek pitched a scoreless inning and raised his record to 3-4.
