The Florida Panthers have signed center Aleksander Barkov to an entry-level, three-year contract. He was selected by the Cats as the second overall pick at the 2013 NHL Draft back on June 30. Barkov had 21 goals, 27 assists and a plus-18 in 53 games with Tappara of the Finnish Elite League during the 2012-13 season.
He played in the last two World Junior Championships. He was youngest selection to ever join the Finland Junior Championship team in 2011-12. He scored one goal along with three assists in six games for that tournament and became the second youngest player to ever to score a goal in World Junior Championship competition. Barkov played in the 2012-13 tournament and contributed three goals and seven points in six games.
