The Florida Panthers added more depth to their blue line as they signed defenseman Matt Gilroy to a one-year two-way contract. Gilroy split his time during the 2012-13 season between the New York Rangers and the Connecticut Whale. He had no goals and no assists in 15 games with the Blueshirts. He did get six goals and nine assists in 34 games with Connecticut last season.
Gilroy, a Boston University grad, had a previous stint with the Rangers from 2009-10 until 2010-11. He compiled seven goals and 19 assists in 127 games over two seasons. He signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Lightning in July 2011. Gilroy had two goals and 15 assists in 53 games for the Bolts until he was traded to the Ottawa Senators for defenseman Brian Lee in February 2012. He finished the season with the Sens as he got one goal and two assists in 14 games.
