Marlins Edge Braves

The Miami Marlins picked up a game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Atlanta Braves 4-3 at Turner Field on Thursday night. The Fish have won five of six and 10 of their last 13 games.
Atlanta(49-36), who lead the National League East, scored all their runs during the first inning against Henderson Alvarez. Andrelton Simmons led off with an infield single and Jason Heyward hit a double into deep right field. After Justin Upton popped out to first, Simmons and Heyward scored on a single by Freddie Freeman to center. Brian McCann would knock in Freeman on a double to the right-center field gap to make it 3-0.
Miami(32-52) slowly tried to get back in this game as they scored three runs in the next three innings off Julio Teheran. Marcell Ozuna pounded his second homer of the season when he hit a one-out solo home run to left field on a 2-2 pitch in the second inning.
Jeff Mathis led off the third inning with a single into left field. After Alvarez struck out, Mathis advanced to third on a base hit to right by Justin Ruggiano. Mathis then scored on a ground out to second by Ed Lucas.
In the fourth inning, Logan Morrison started with a double into deep right field. He would score on a base hit to center by Ozuna with none out.
The Fish got to reliever Craig Kimbrel on a rare occasion in the ninth inning. Lucas walked, Giancarlo Stanton struck out, Morrison walked and Ozuna struck out. Donovan Solano drove in the go-ahead run with a single into right field as Lucas crossed the plate.
