The Miami Marlins pulled off a 4-0 shutout of the San Diego Padres at Marlins Park on Monday night. The Fish have won six of their last seven games and eight of their last ten. They are 11-4 in their last 15 home games.
Jose Fernandez pitched a two-hitter through eight innings for Miami(30-51) and struck out ten Padres. His record improved to 5-4 this season. Steve Cishek got his 15th save of the year as he went 1/3 of an inning. San Diego(40-43) starting pitcher Jason Marquis dropped to 9-4 as he allowed four unearned runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.
The Marlins scored all their runs during the sixth inning. Ed Lucas led off and got on base with a throwing error by shortstop Pedro Ciraco. Giancarlo Stanton walked and Logan Morrison flied out to left field. Marcell Ozuna knocked in Lucas on a base hit into right-center field and advanced to second on the throw to the plate. After Derek Dietrich was intentionally walked to load the bases and Adeiny Hechavarria struck out, Jeff Mathis cleared them with a two-out three-run double off the left-field wall for a 4-0 lead.
