Marlins Edge Rockies

The Miami Marlins finished a four-game series in Denver with a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Thursday at Coors Field. The Marlins took three of the four games in the series and are now 17-35 on the road.
Neither team was able to score prior to a rain delay that was called in the middle of the seventh inning. Both teams had a combined five hits at that point of the game. The game would not resume for another 93 minutes.
Miami(38-62) picked up a two-out rally during the eighth inning and got the lead against Adam Ottavino. Rob Brantly slapped a base hit to right field and advanced to third on a single to right by pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs. With Adeiny Hechavarria at-bat, Brantly scored on a wild pitch by Ottavino.
The Marlins captured some insurance with another four runs in the top of the ninth off Wilton Lopez. Christian Yelich cranked a lead-off ground-rule double to left field and Giancarlo Stanton followed with a double to deep left field for Yelich to score. After Stanton went to third on a fly out to center by Logan Morrison, Ed Lucas drove him in with a chopper through the middle of the infield. Donovan Solano capped it with a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch for his second home run of the season.
Colorado(49-54) broke the shutout in the bottom of the ninth against Kevin Slowey. Jordan Pacheco started with a base hit to left field and he scored on a double by Michael Cuddyer to the center-field wall. Wilin Rosario then singled up the middle to center field which brought in Cuddyer. He advanced to second on the throw and Steve Cishek had to come in and relieve for Slowey. Two batters later, Rosario crossed the plate on a shallow hit to right field by Nolan Arenado. Cishek got Jonathan Herrera to ground into a double play to end the contest.
Nathan Eovaldi went six innings for the Fish until the rain delay and allowed no runs on three hits. Rockies starting pitcher Juan Nicasio struck out nine and gave up no runs on two hits in seven innings.
