For the sixth consecutive month, 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM was the highest rated sports format station in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale region during June. It was their largest margin of victory for them since June 2012 when they had more than double the audience compared to their nearest competitor.
After three straight months at a 1.1, 790 The Ticket improved to a 1.3 during the month of June. The ratings push was due to the Miami Heat playoff run as they won their second straight NBA championship and their third title in franchise history. In addition, the Miami Marlins compiled more wins than expected during the time span.
Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM finished a distant second place as they slightly dropped from a 0.9 to a 0.8 in June. All their shows remained stable, but there was no game broadcasts with the University of Miami Hurricanes baseball team eliminated early in the postseason.
A big surprise was that 104.3 The Ticket WAXY-FM remained flat at a 0.6 for the second straight month. Even with a clearer signal that had broadcast the Miami Heat championship run, less emphasis of the new brand name and the use of tape-delayed shows has not helped the station.
The station that remained in fourth place was 940 The Sports Animal WINZ-AM as they fell from a 0.3 to a 0.2 in June. They had reverted back to the same audience share in four of the last five months. It did not help them that this was a slow period for the Miami Dolphins and they had no game broadcasts with the exception of NASCAR racing on the weekend.
