Christian Yelich made his major league debut in left field and went 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Miami Marlins continued their winning ways with a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Tuesday night. Jake Marisnick also played his first major league game in center field and went 0-for-4.
Jose Fernandez, who has not pitched since his scoreless inning in the All-Star Game last week, improved to 6-5 as he allowed two runs on five hits and struck out eight in seven innings for the Fish. Jhoulys Chacin dropped to 9-5 as he went seven innings for the Rockies and gave up three runs on eight hits. Steve Cishek claimed his 19th save this year.
Todd Felton bashed his seventh homer in the second inning for Colorado(48-53). He hit a two-out solo home run to right field on a 1-0 pitch off Fernandez.
In the top of the third, Miami(37-61) tied the game on a two-out rally against Chacin. Adeiny Hechavarria reached base on an infield single and then stole second. Yelich got his second hit of the game on a single to center field and knocked in Hechavarria for his first career RBI.
The Fish took the lead with two runs in the fifth inning. After Donovan Solano picked up a lead-off base hit to left, Jeff Mathis singled to right-center field. Solano was out at third on a fielder's choice as Fernandez went to first. Hechavarria then drove in Mathis on a long double to right field. Fernandez scored on an infield hit to the right side by Yelich.
The Rockies closed the margin to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth. D.J. LeMathieu started with a triple to right field and crossed the plate on a Carlos Gonzalez ground out to second.
Josh Outman came in to relieve for Chacin in the eighth inning. After Yelich flew out to center field, Giancarlo Stanton blasted his 11th home run of the season to left field on a 1-1 count.
