The Florida Panthers have re-signed goalie Jacob Markstrom to a new two-year deal. He was a restricted free agent following the 2012-13 season. Markstrom, who was selected in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft, split his time last season with the Cats and their AHL affiliate in San Antonio.
Markstrom had a record of 8-14-1 and a goals against average of 3.22 in 23 games for Florida during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season. He also played for the San Antonio Rampage and was 16-15-2 with a 2.65 goals against average in 33 games. Markstrom played in the 2011-12 season with the Panthers and had a 2-4-1 record. He made his NHL debut on January 23, 2011 as he replaced Scott Clemmensen at the beginning of the second period in net against the New Jersey Devils to become the youngest goalie in franchise history.
