Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jose Fernandez hurled one perfect inning for the National League during the All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York City on Tuesday night. He became the first rookie pitcher in Marlins franchise history to appear in an All-Star Game.
Fernandez entered the game for the senior circuit in the top of the sixth inning. He faced Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox first and struck him out swinging. Former Marlin and current Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera followed as he popped out to first baseman Paul Goldschmidt in foul territory. Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles, who currently leads the major leagues in home runs, also struck out swinging to end the frame.
