The Miami Marlins extended their losing streak to six games as they fell to the Atlanta Braves 5-0 on Friday night at Turner Field. The Bravos have now won 14 straight games for the current longest winning streak in baseball.
Atlanta(71-45) came out of the box with four runs in the first inning against Jacob Turner. After Jason Heyward struck out, Justin Upton crushed his 22nd home run of the season on a 2-2 count to left field. Freddie Freeman then singled into right field and Brian McCann got to first on a fielding error by Adeiny Hechavarria. Chris Johnson followed with a three-run homer to center field on a 1-0 pitch to give the Bravos a 4-0 lead.
The Braves put up an additional run during the third inning as McCann cracked a lead-off solo home run to center field on 1-1 pitch for his 17th homer of the season.
Turner dropped to 3-4 as he gave up five runs on five hits in five innings for Miami(43-71) while Braves starting pitcher Brandon Beachy got his first decision of the year as he pitched eight innings and allowed no runs on three hits.
