It was limited offense early in the game as the Miami Marlins got past the New York Mets 3-0 at Marlins Park on Thursday. The Marlins split the four-game series with the Mets and now hold a 10-5 edge this season over New York(48-58).
The scoreless tie was broken by Miami(42-65) in the sixth inning against Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey. Juan Pierre came in to pinch-hit for Tom Koehler and singled to right field. Christian Yelich followed with a base hit into center field as Pierre advanced to third. Adeiny Hechavarria would line out to short and Giancarlo Stanton struck out. Logan Morrison drove Pierre in with an RBI-single into right field to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead. After Ed Lucas was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Donovan Solano smacked a two-run single to right-center field for Yelich and Morrison to score and made it a three-run margin.
Koehler went six innings and gave up no runs on five hits and upped his mark to 3-6. Harvey allowed three runs on five hits and struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings as his record dropped to 8-3. Steve Cishek picked up his 23rd save this season for Miami.
