It is a game where both schools are separated by less than four miles on Sunrise Boulevard in Broward County. The Dillard Panthers will host the Plantation Colonels on Friday night at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium in the first game of the regular season.
Dillard made the playoffs for the first time since 2008 as they won a second-place tiebreaker in the district against the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs and Hallandale Chargers. They also defeated the Blanche Ely Tigers in the Soul Bowl at Lockhart Stadium. The Panthers lost to the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders 21-10 in a kickoff classic last week at Brian Piccolo Stadium.
Lee Martin will lead them as quarterback on offense and will hand the ball off to Eddie Roberts IV. Impressive targets in wide receivers Dennis Turner and Elijah Johnson will be downfield to catch the ball.
Plantation finished second to the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders in the district last season. They won their first round playoff game on the road against American 29-8 before they got blown away by the Raiders 38-7 in the regional semifinals.
Chris Lammons will lead the offense as their quarterback and will attempt to connect with wide receiver Jewison Hawkins on long passes. Running back Antwaun Haynes will get the bulk of the carries from the backfield.
