The Fort Lauderdale Strikers met the New York Cosmos for the first time in 30 years on Saturday night as the Strikers lost to the Cosmos 2-1 at Hofstra University in Long Island. The Cosmos, who played their first game ever in the new NASL, last faced against the Strikers on May 8, 1983 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Prior to halftime, Peri Marosevic gave New York the initial lead as he tapped in a ball from close range following a corner kick by Ayone in the 44th minute. Fort Lauderdale tied the game in the 73rd minute as Walter Restrepo put in a header. The Cosmos got the victory two minutes into extra time in the second half as Alessandro Noselli knocked in a header during the 92nd minute.
