There will several new beat reporters that will cover the University of Miami Hurricanes sports program for the upcoming school year. Christy C. Chirinos was named the new Hurricanes writer at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on Wednesday. She will replace Michael Casagrande who will be returning to Alabama to cover the University of Alabama Crimson Tide after over one year of following The U. Chirinos has been at the Sun-Sentinel for over a decade and has mainly covered high school sports in Broward County.
The Palm Beach Post had made a similar change back in early July where Matt Porter replaced Jorge Milian as the University of Miami beat writer. Milian had covered the Canes with the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel during the early 1990's and had the same position with the Palm Beach Post from 1995 until June 2013 before he became a news writer. Porter joined the Palm Beach Post in 2009 and worked as the Palm Beach County high school sports reporter for four years.
