David was a sports director, sports anchor and morning disc jockey with WBUD-AM in Trenton during the 1970's and 1980's. He also added duties as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Princeton University Tigers in football and basketball.
He got an opportunity to announce professional sports and the NBA as the New Jersey Nets radio play-by-play announcer from October 1987 until April 1994. After his contract was not renewed by the Nets, he moved to Milwaukee and became the Bucks radio voice from October 1994 until April 1997. David then worked as the Boston Celtics radio play-by-play announcer from October 1997 through April 2001. While with the Celtics, he also had a fill-in role as a sports host at WEEI-AM in Boston.
David had numerous stints as an NFL football announcer. He worked as an NFL football play-by-play announcer for CBS Radio/Westwood One from the early 1990's until January 2001. He worked Sunday Night Football games until December 1995. David was promoted to the lead play-by-play announcer position at the company as of 1996 which entailed him to broadcast Monday Night Football games and the Super Bowl. He did announce five Super Bowls before he was replaced by Marv Albert. David was also the radio voice of the New York Jets from August 1998 until December 2001.
He moved on to work for Sports USA Radio Network as an NFL play-by-play announcer during the mid-2000's. David would return to Westwood One in 2009 and begin a second stint with the company in the same role as an NFL play-by-play announcer until the end of the 2011 season. He is currently a Saturday morning co-host on the NFL radio channel at Sirius XM Radio.
