The Miami Marlins started off great on Wednesday night, but the Los Angeles Dodgers moved by them with a 4-1 win at Marlins Park. Both teams will finish the four-game series on Thursday afternoon.
Dodgers starting pitcher Zack Greinke went eight innings and allowed one run on six hits to improve his record to 12-3. Nathan Eovaldi, who is a former Dodger, fell to 2-4 as he gave up two earned runs on six hits in seven innings.
Miami(48-77) jumped out to the early lead during the first inning. Giancarlo Stanton bashed a two-out solo home run to left field on a 1-0 pitch from Greinke for his 16th homer of the season. It was his seventh career home run against the Dodgers.
In the fourth inning, Los Angeles(74-52) rolled on through with three runs against Eovaldi. Yusiel Puig reached first on a throwing error by third baseman Ed Lucas and then Adrian Gonzalez walked. Former Marlin Hanley Ramirez laced a double into deep left-center field to score Puig and tied the game at 1-1. Andre Ethier knocked in Gonzalez from third with a base hit to left field. Eovaldi was charged with an error when he tried to pick off Ethier on first which resulted in a run by Ramirez.
The Dodgers added another run in the top of the eighth against Ryan Webb. Ramirez led off with a single to left field and then stole second. After Ethier walked, both runners advanced one base when A.J. Ellis sacrificed to third. Ramirez scored on a sacrifice fly by Jerry Hairston Jr. to center field.
