George Richards has returned to South Florida and will cover the Florida Panthers for The Athletic Miami. He spent last season working as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat reporter for the Columbus Dispatch.
Richards had a long reign with the Miami Herald prior to moving to Ohio. He was the Florida Panthers beat writer for that newspaper from after the lockout season in 2004-05 until September 2017.
He joined the Miami Herald in 1989 as a aget clerk compiling sports statistics. Richards, a Cooper City High School and University of Miami grad, became a sportswriter with the newspaper in 1992 and mainly covered high school athletics.
