The Washington Nationals smashed the Miami Marlins 9-4 on Tuesday night at Nationals Park. The Fish are now 0-2 on their final road swing of the season.
Washington(80-78) jumped on the Fish in the first inning. Anthony Rendon pounded a three-run homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch. Adam Eaton and Bryce Harper both scored in front of him on the round-tripper.
Miami(62-95) tied the contest 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Brian Anderson was able to double in Miguel Rojas on a hit into deep left field.
The Nats waited until the seventh inning and added six more runs for an eight-run margin. Rendon knocked in Eaton with a double to deep right-center field. Ryan Zimmerman followed with a base hit to center which brought home Harper and Rendon. Matt Wieters drove in Juan Soto on a single into left field. Eaton then got a two-run single into shallow center as Zimmerman and Wilmer Difo crossed the plate.
The Marlins picked up two runs during the eighth inning. Peter O'Brien powered a two-run home run over the left-field fence on a 1-0 count for J.T. Riddle to score. Miami added another run in the ninth as Brinson scored on a Christopher Bostick single to left.
