The New York Mets hit back-to-back homers with two out in the ninth inning to cap off a comeback and take the Miami Marlins 4-3 at Citi Field on Thursday. It was the first game of a twi-night doubleheader.
Miami(57-88) put together back-to-back home runs in the top of the second. Peter O'Brien homered to center field on a 1-1 pitch and then Isaac Galloway followed with a round-tripper to left field on a 2-1 count for a 2-0 lead.
New York(67-78) tied the game in the bottom of the second. Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz nailed a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch. Kevin Plawecki was able to score in front of him on the play.
The Marlins would regain the lead during the seventh inning. O'Brien knocked in Brian Anderson with a single into right field.
The Mets came back in the bottom of the ninth to win the contest against Marlins reliever Kyle Bararclough. Michael Conforto blasted a solo home run into the right-field upper deck on a 1-0 count for his 25th homer of the season. Todd Frazier followed and with his own solo homer over the left- field fence on a 1-1 pitch for a walk-off home run.
