The Florida Panthers began a long road trip as they beat the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 in a preseason game at Bell Centre on Wednesday night. Roberto Luongo saw his first action in net after he was not used in a doubleheader at home on Monday against the Nashville Predators.
Florida got a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Evgenii Dadonov at 4:21 and 11:07(power play). Montreal picked up a power-play goal from Matthew Peca at 13:19.
There was no scoring by the Habs and Cats in the second period. The Panthers added two goals in the third period by Jared McCann. He put in a shorthanded tally at 10:57 and had an even-strength goal exactly two minutes later.
The Habs closed the gap to 4-2 with 4:02 left in contest on a goal by Nikita Scherbak. Nick Bjugstad finished it off for the Cats as he scored into an empty net with 52 seconds remaining.
