The Boca Raton Bobcats held off the Monarch Knights 38-14 in a District 12-8A contest on Thursday night. It is the first time that both schools faced each other as district opponents.
The Bobcats defense came up with a turnover to take a 7-0 lead at 8:28 of the first quarter. Defensive back Tre'Nell Hollis intercepted a screen pass to the left side and returned it seven yards for the score.
Monarch(6-2, 1-1) tied the game 7-7 with 3:27 remaining in the first. Quarterback Peter Zamora connected a 25-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brady Brauner on the right side.
In the second quarter, the Knights pulled ahead 14-7 at the 9:18 mark. Wide receiver Jaden Alexis caught a 29-yard touchdown catch on the left side of the end zone from Zamora.
Boca Raton(4-3, 1-1) evened the contest up 14-14 with 1:39 left in the second. Hollis sprinted up the middle of the field from six yards away.
The second half would belong to the Bobcats as they compiled 24 unanswered points. Quarterback Andy Caverly faked a handoff, ran a naked bootleg to the left side and scored a four-yard touchdown at 7:45 of the third.
Boca increased their lead to 28-14 at the 9:44 mark of the fourth quarter. Tight end Ashton Gillotte made a diving catch near the left side of the end zone on a five-yard toss by Caverly. Peyton Giersbrook later booted a 26-yard field goal with 6:15 to go.
