The New York Islanders survived the Florida Panthers 3-2 in a shootout at NYCB Live Nassau Coliseum on Saturday night. It was the second straight night that the Panthers went to a shootout and lost.
In the first period, Florida(1-2-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Denis Malgin put in his first goal of the year on assists from Evgenii Dadonov and MacKenzie Weegar.
New York(2-3-0) got the only tallies in the second period. Anders Lee scored scored his second goal of the season at the 5:40 mark and Josh Bailey gave the Islanders the lead with 2:29 left.
The Panthers tied the contest 2-2 with 6:02 remaining in the third. Dadonov compiled his third goal of the season. Jonathan Huberdeau and Anton Stralman were credited with assists on the play. Stralman picked up his first point with Florida.
The game went to shootout and the Isles scored on the only opportunity. Brock Nelson scored on the Islanders first attempt. Aleksander Barkov, Vincent Trocheck and Huberdeau were unable to convert in the shootout for the Cats.
