The Florida Panthers fell to the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night at KeyBank Center. It was the first game of a three-game road trip for the Cats.
After a scoreless first period, Buffalo(4-0-1) struck first with 31 seconds left in second. Johan Larsson compiled his first goal of the year.
The Sabres quickly made it 2-0 early in the third period at the 2:02. Marco Scandella got his first tally of the campaign.
Florida(1-2-1) cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 6:15 mark. Evgenii Dadonov put in his second goal this season on assists from Jonathan Huberdeau and Denis Malgin
The Panthers evened the contest 2-2 with 11 seconds left in the third as Mike Hoffman placed in his fifth goal of the season. Dadonov and Trocheck were both credited with assists on the play.
It went into a shootout where Jack Eichel scored on the first attempt for Buffalo and Casey Middelstadt converted on the third attempt. Trocheck and Aleksander Barkov missed on the Panthers attempts.
