The Miami Heat opened up the 2019-20 season with a 120-101 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night at American Airlines Arena. It was the first regular season game that the Heat played since Dwyane Wade retired. Jimmy Butler did not make his Heat debut due to personal reasons.
It was the sixth straight season that Miami won their home opener. The Heat is now 18-14 in season-opening contests.
Memphis(0-1) rolled out to a 32-24 lead after one quarter and stayed ahead 60-54 at halftime. Miami(1-0) cut the deficit and trailed 84-83 by the end of the third quarter. The Heat exploded with a 24-1 run to begin the final quarter for the victory.
Justise Winslow fell one point short of a career high with 27 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Heat. Bam Adebayo compiled a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Goran Dragic contributed 19 points. Tyler Herro made his NBA and Heat debut where he added 14 points and eight rebounds.
