Bruins Stop Panthers Winning Streak

     The Boston Bruins ended the Florida Panthers eight-game winning streak with a 3-2 shootout win at TD Garden on Saturday night. The Panthers continued their point streak to the begin the 2021-22 regular season at nine games. Spencer Knight did not get the victory for the first time in seven NHL regular season appearances. 
     Both teams honored former player Jimmy Hayes prior to the start of the contest. There was a tribute, nameplate jerseys during the pre-skate session and a moment of silence for him. 
     Boston(4-3-0) went out in front 1-0 with 42 seconds remaining in the first period. Charlie Coyle got his third tally of the campaign on a wrist shot from the left-circle dot. 
     In the second period, Florida(8-0-1) tied it up 47 seconds into the frame. Anthony Duclair compiled his sixth goal of the year on assists from Carter Verhaeghe and Aaron Ekblad. He dashed from the right circle to the low slot and snapped a shot past Linus Ullmark. 
     Both clubs scored on the power play during the third period. Aleksander Barkov gave the Panthers their only lead of the games at the 7:49 mark on a one-time slap shot from right circle. Jonathan Huberdeau and Ekblad were credited with assists on the play. 
     The Bruins evened it 2-2 with 6:25 to go in third when Charlie McAvoy found the net as he lifted a wrist from the right of the crease for his first goal this season. The B's converted on the only shot in the shootout during their third attempt as Coyle slid the puck by Knight with a forehand shot.
