Marlins Win Season Finale Over Phillies

     The Miami Marlins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 in their home finale at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins completed the 2021 season with a losing record for the 11th time in the last 12 years. The exception was last year when they reached the expanded postseason with a National League wild-card spot. 
     Miami(67-95) charged out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. EddyAlvarez tripled to deep right field for Brian Miller to score. Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed with a base hit into center field and Alvarez reached home. 
     Philadelphia(82-80) responded quickly in the top of the second. Freddy Galvis belted a solo home run to right field on a 1-2 pitch for his 14th homer of the year. 
     The Fish reclaimed a two-run margin in the bottom of the second. Steve Okert grounded into a double play and Nick Cortes crossed the plate. 
     The Phillies tied the contest 3-3 in the third inning. Andrew McCutchen pounded a two-run homer to left field on a 0-2 count with Bryce Harper aboard. It was the 27th home run of the season for McCutchen. 
     The Marlins moved ahead once again in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-4. Fortes smacked a two-run home run to left-center field on a 1-1 pitch. Deven Marrero was on base and scored in front of him on the play. It was the fourth career homer for Fortes. 
     In the eighth inning, Philadelphia cut it to 5-4. Brad Miller knocked in Travis Jankowski on a single into left field.
