The Miami Marlins lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 on Sunday at Marlins Park. It completed a stretch where the Marlins played 12 of their first 15 games of the regular season at home.
It began fine for Miami(4-11) as they got the first run. Brian Anderson grounded out to third for J.B. Schuck to score.
Pittsburgh(11-4) roared back with three runs in the top of the third. Josh Bell doubled to right field which brought in Adam Frazier and Starling Marte. Bell eventually scored on a Corey Dickerson single to right field. A Rocco Cervelli sacrifice fly to center in the fifth inning scored Marte to make it 4-1.
In the seventh inning, the Bucs extended their margin. Bell drove in Gregory Polanco with a single into right-center field. Dickerson later brought in Marte with a sacrifice fly to right and increased the Pirates lead to 6-1.
The Marlins did get some production in the bottom of the frame. Pinch-hitter Justin Bour smashed a two-run homer to right and Cameron Maybin scored in front of him on the play.
Marte completed his 5-for-5 day at the plate in the top of the ninth inning. He laced a home run over the left-field fence on a 1-0 pitch.
